I came across an artist on Behance who only goes by the name Sumi, I really liked her art style and found some of her works to have a very rounded shape and flow to the characters in their faces and hair which is similar to the kind of style I hope to bring to my own animated opening sequence.
This image has a very round shape with the face and the hair that follows the shape of the head and falls downward in a curvy motion. The bubble by her face is round and soft and even the curve of her shoulder has a soft round shape. The round shape of blush colour on her cheeks is something I also want to include in my art work when drawing women as it looks cute and feminine, and can be used to differentiate a feminine character to a masculine character seeming as the face shape and style for both genders will have the same basic features.
Seeming as my client wanted most of the scenery based around the hosts inside a 1950's cab I thought it would be a good idea to use a black and white, sepia or just a muted colour scheme, maybe with a bright red featured in some places to make it stand out though it will be used minimally. The above illustration similarly portrays the colour scheme I'm thinking about using and again uses the round shape of the face and hair. Though i'm having a round style in overall shape the faces of my hosts will be simpler and more cartoon like.
I really love the style and texture of the hair in this illustration and I feel I can replicate it. It looks like an artistic brush has been use in one colour and started with a low opacity gradually layering up the strokes and increasing the opacity and decreasing the thickness of the brush as it builds up. I'm conflicted between using this textured style for the hair or sticking to the rounded, flat colour and shape of hair.
I love the colour scheme used in this illustration with the shades of blue and purple and then the trail of misty pink dust that stretches across the background and contrasts with the cold colour theme. The girl in this is made up of curved shapes. Her eyes are big and round and her lips curve upwards, the face is round and the hair flows in one direction with curved shapes of colour. The coat and her legs are also made up of curved lines and the pink dust trail in the background also uses several round shape with a stippled or spray painted texture.
Both of these illustrations use a cold and dark colour scheme with primarily blue and purple hues and some black and white. I like the proportions on the lady in the left image as she has a small found face and circles of pink blush on her face and her hair flows long and curvy down to the bottom of the image. The image on the right uses some texture, it looks like it was painted with water colour on canvas paper. I also really like the repetitive round and curved shapes used to create the hair of the girl in the image.
