My client gave a link to this image in the brief guideline as a reference to the kind of art style they had in mind. I really didn't like this style as I feel it's too bland and inconsistent in shape and colour so I drew up some sketches of a rounder cartoon style I wanted to use and showed them my ideas in my first meeting with them.
I'm uncomfortable with drawing vehicles, but since they wanted a 1960's taxi in their sequence I decided to look up some images and start sketching a 1960's taxi, clearly it's quite a detailed object to draw so from the detailed more realistic sketch I did some development sketches to follow where I am simplifying the object down to less detailed and more cartoony so that it becomes easier to draw at different angles and shots. I practiced with drawing the vehicle at different angles too like on a side view, back view, and inside back seat views.
Here I have played with the art style of the cartoon versions of the hosts. At this point I didn't know what my client's look like so these characters aren't what the final versions are going to look like but I played with basic shapes to make up the head and face. I wanted to go with an overall rounded style so the heads and eyes are round. I tried drawing different eye and mouth shapes and styles and mix and matching them to get the faces or expressions I wanted for the hosts so that they are identifiable.
This is the rough outcome I ended up with for the hosts overall face, head and body shape. Once I've met my clients and have some reference photos the hair and clothing or accessories will be changed.
