Julio Klenker is another artist I came across on Behance who uses a cartoon style in his work. He uses mostly block colours and simple shading with flat colour and he also uses subtle textures in some of his work. Some of his cartoon characters also have a style where they follow basic shapes like squares or circles.
He created this series of illustrations of hero's from kid's cartoon's and tv shows, most of them being retro cartoons such as Dragon-ball, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Thunder-Cats, the above two are my favourites. I like the rounds shape of the faces he has used, his style for these posters use faces with rounded edges and limbs that are very curved. The overall style of the poster are made up of round shapes such as the dragon balls and the clump of the cloud in the left poster and then for the right poster it uses rounded shapes for the head, mouth and body of the character.
These are the graphics that he made for a short animated sequence which include the characters popping up from the round shape in the middle and the elements moving or rotating in some way. I've noticed that commonly throughout the characters he draws in all of his work they have shapes for the noses, in the hero posters they have an oval shaped nose and in others they have a tear drop or rectangular nose.
In my art I was going to use triangular noses for the character designs of the hosts so it's interesting to see his work make use of other shapes for noses. He uses complimentary colours for this particular piece of work, mostly blue with yellow or red with green. This piece doesn't use any textures or patterns and hardly any shading, it is completely made up of shapes of flat colours.
This image has characters in which their features are constricted within the overall cubic shape of their heads and bodies. Though this is the opposite to the round style I was to use I think it's interesting to see use of other shapes for character design and I may still be able to draw inspiration from it. I also really like the style of the cityscape in the background and the way it gradients down and fades out towards the bottom, I will keep this style in mind when creating the scenery for my opening sequence in which the cab is driving through.
