Year 2 - Animation Project

The Brief
An introduction to animation, look at existing animations and commercial uses of animation, identify the principles of animation and explore specific animation techniques.
Produce a short animated sequence (20 - 30 seconds) which promotes a message to become involved in activities which will reduce CO2 emissions as part of a public information campaign. E.g. recycling, walking and using public transport, growing your own fruit and veg.

Themes to consider:
The general message: express the urge and seriousness of the message that time is running out, be optimistic about the chance of changing the future for better. consequences of no action on global warming can be intimidating but animation should be motivational to take action.

Food: Food chain contributes significantly to climate change and is essential for life. Actions to engage in to make food supply more sustainable include growing your own veg, buying local produce and eating seasonally.

Transport: Flying gives you a huge carbon footprint, animation could encourage holidays closer to home. Driving a car isn't needed to travel in local towns where public transport is regular, cheap and easy, cycling is good for your fitness and walking brings life down to a liveable pace and creates a sense of community.

Consumption/ Lifestyle: We live in a culture where we mindlessly throw away old things and buy new stuff. Film could encourage people to recycle, share, swap, mend and buy second hand instead of upgrading objects such as devices and furniture. services like Freecycle and Furniture Now encourage this.

Animation should be motivational positive and encouraging and should avoid a lecturing or accusing tone. Must use a sound-track, which can feature a combination of voice-over script, music and sound effects.

What to include in sketchbooks, blogs and pitch. Initial idea generation e.g brainstorms, rough and thumbnail sketches. Storyboarding and mocking up artwork, generating a script and animatic. pitch my ideas on monday 14th october. animatic must feature sound track, music tracks, sound effects, voice over recordings to build animatic against.

Produce the artwork in any combination of photoshop or illustrator, which will be imported into After Effects to animate. use core foundational techniques in after effects (e.g. transform properties, keyframing, easing, layers, pre-comping) do not use after effects plug-ins to create animated sequence. blog should contain entries on how i create my artwork and animations.

Finished animation will be shown in crit on monday 4th November. write up a review of the crit, the feedback i was offered and my response to it, including changes made in my blog.
